Asher Roth - Wrestling Is Fake (Video)
Asher Roth (@asherroth) liberates this single, likely to be featured on his still unnamed upcoming album. In my opinion, Asher is a talented dude who caught a bad case of typecast syndrome. Ever since he gained recognition for his hit song “I Love College,” he has been branded as a “frat rapper” who makes songs for white dudes in college. As a result, he has been largely ignored by hip hop heads. This is unfortunate because, in reality, dude is a technically gifted emcee with wordplay and flow for days. It just goes to show how important branding is in this era of hip-hop where viral marketing reigns supreme. With the attention span of hip-hop fans decreasing at an exponential rate, rappers rarely get more than one chance to make a lasting impression on the community. It’s almost as if we expect rappers to know who they want to be as an artist before they even release their first single. It’s definitely an unfair standard. That being said, check out this song and think about giving Asher Roth another shot.
